Plymouth Brethren Christian Church - Great Western Air Ambulance + Max

GWAAC Critical Care Dr. Leon Roberts, Max Deans, and Critical Care Paramedic Neil Hooper.

On 22nd February 2013, a young member of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church in Norwich, 9 year old Max Deans, was visiting relatives in Swindon. While trying to cross the road, he was hit by a bus and sustained severe head injuries. Max’s condition quickly deteriorated and it was vital for him to be sedated at the scene — but they needed a doctor, fast. Great Western Air Ambulance was called, as they had a doctor on duty.

Max was then airlifted by the Wiltshire Air Ambulance to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, the Neuro centre for the South West, arriving in just 12 minutes. The team at the hospital was on standby, immediately performed a CT scan, then rushed him into  emergency surgery.

Young Max has made a miraculous recovery thanks to thousands of worldwide prayers, the outstanding efforts of the emergency services that day and the level of medical care he received. Max and his family were invited back to the Wiltshire Police HQ and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance in Devizes, for a visit.

Thousands raised to donate to the charities

Max’s family and the PBCC wanted to show their gratitude for the outstanding work of all those involved that day, especially the two Air Ambulance charities. They were able to present a donation of £4250.00 to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, funds willingly raised by the brethren communities of Norwich and Swindon as a token for the priceless services they offered that day.

The Air Ambulance charities are in great need of funding — without it, they would not be able to fly and provide their life-saving skills. These charities receive no funding from the government and are entirely dependent on donations to maintain and fly their helicopters. The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church were proud to make a similar donation of £3650 .00 to the Great Western Air Ambulance charity when Max visited them on the 11th June.

We have a small school here in Mt Gambier with 43 students. The children decided to collect for the SA Flying Doctor Service this year which runs air ambulances throughout SA country. The teacher thought they were way over the top when threy told him their target was $8500. The end result to the ambulance was a cheque for over $13000!!!!! The ambulances run over 150 trips per year from here to Adelaide for emergencies. The donation is just enough for one new propeller for the propjet aircraft!!!!!!

Well little Max… I don’t know you, I’m French. But I remember this accident. It has broken our hearts to imagine the pain you’re going through, you and your family. We prayed 4 u a lot in France, and now, see… God is your Father, love is in Him, Miracles are in Him. Never forget what you’ve gone through. For sure this staff has been incredible, but because they were working under God’s amazing power. He can touch us wherever we are, whatever we do, whoever we are. Never forget the personal experience you had with the Heavenly Father, it will help to preserve you from impure thing when you’ll grown up. Love you little Max, you’re in the best place in the world !!!
