Hoddesdon Fire Station Open Day

Plymouth Brethren - Hoddesdon Fire Station Open Day

On Saturday 29th June 2013 volunteers from the Hertford Gospel Hall Trust set up catering facilities at the local fire station to support the fire fighters in their fund raising activities. The offer to provide refreshments for the day was warmly received by the Officer in Charge Gary Bailey whose comment was “we are firemen and like to be out with the public, we are not chefs”, so thank you.

A sunny day complimented the fire fighters enthusiasm for demonstrating to the public their techniques for saving and preserving lives. Car dismantling, burning tower rescues, and chip pan fires were just some of the displays of bravery and selfless actions that the fire fighters undertake on a daily basis.

Burgers served with cheese, salad and caramelized onion, onion rings, tea, coffee and hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, ice creams and freshly cooked doughnuts were just some of the food that the Hertford gospel Hall trust volunteers provided free of charge to the fire service. The food was sold at very reasonable prices with all monies collected going to the Fire Fighters Charity.

Fireman Sam – It’s all down to a principle, as set out elsewhere on this website.
However, you will see from many blogs that we also “serve the community in time of need” and in fact at any time at all – which means we can turn out food ad infinitum to all and sundry – with a smile!
If you haven’t been following the Australian Bushfire blogs – look now!
      And enjoy your day!

Wow, we recognize some of those globetrotting chefs! They can cook up lots of exotic things like Oozy Chocolate Roulade or Tri Tip al la Flamme. Hoddesdon Fire Station and patrons are in excellent hands. Yummy food and lots of support.
    Keep up the good work!

    1. anony-mouse says:

Is the second picture a gone wrong Tri Tip al la Flamme?? 🙂

    2. Cal Nan says:

Looks just about RIGHT to me, but I think the recipe is a closely guarded secret!

    3. Uncle Sam says:

The second pic must be Flapjack Flambe a la Lucky Luke 😉

I think I saw on the Ozzie blog that some young brethren have received training to help the fire service. One place has also raised money for specialised cutting equipment, for use at road accidents.
Perhaps someone will post the links??

  5. Zap says:

I wonder how many of the young folk will be inspired to take up a career in the fire service; or, at least, train to be a part-time fire fighter?

    1. alltight says:

there are pbcc in north america who are part time firefighter, i think a lot would be volunteer. there could be some in england too.

    2. Robbie says:

I don’t think PBCC members are allowed to be firemen? Is this right? If so why?

  6. BD says:

    …”complimented the fire fighters enthusiasm”
    I think you mean complemented… 🙂 – Editor !
But you certainly deserve a “compliment” for doing a good service.
    Congratulations!

  7. Geegee says:

You’ve gottta hand it to the PBCC – one thing they’re really good at is FOOD!

    1. Ditsywoo says:

That is SO true Geegee! Absolutely scrumptious!! 🙂

    2. Robbie says:
