Julian Temblett, Head of Marketing at the British Heart Foundation (BHF), presented the PBCC with a certificate of thanks at a congratulatory presentation at the BHF HQ in London.  After the third year of participating in BHF’s ‘Bag-It Beat-It’ campaign the PBCC have succeeded in donating more than 25,000 bags of saleable items meaning that more than £300,000 can now go towards lifesaving research!

At the presentation, the PBCC attended an interesting and lively seminar,  “The Joys and Challenges of Translational Research” led by Professor Houman Ashrafian, who is a cardiologist working at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. The Professor clearly loves his work, and enjoys researching on behalf of BHF, into the causes of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)(an inherited condition that causes thickening of the heart muscle). He explained how funding is vitally essential to bridge the gap between initial discovery of a treatment option, and the point when the pharmaceutical companies view it as a viable drug.

Julian Temblett, speaking on behalf of BHF, and supported by Professor Ashrafian, expressed gratitude to the Plymouth Brethren – “We are so grateful for all of your efforts, we could not do without you”.   Professor Ashrafian commented that this achievement by the PBCC was very motivating for his staff in the lab where he conducts his research at Oxford University, and highlighted the significance of how much the £100k the brethren raised this year, would contribute towards the cost of lifesaving treatment.

at the top of this page click ‘visit our global website’
then at the top of that page there is an ‘about’ section – and there you click on ‘member stories’
it should be fairly obvious from there
      hope this helps! 🙂

  7. Layla says:

Excellent effort once again! It’s so encouraging to think of all that money going towards care of & research for people with heart problems, especially when most of us know of a few people who generally have bad hearts or heart issues, which is why it’s so important.

  8. Granny says:

This was great fun again – and the house feels a whole lot less cluttered. It’s amazing that people will pay for what we throw out!! Our local shop sent a special letter of thanks and a gift for our efforts over the last few years. We look forward to doing it again next year.

  9. Othersideoftheworld says:

Interesting. Big amount raised from junk! How does it work? Does each filled bag raise a certain amount of money?

    1. Anne Fishwick says:

BHF can work out fairly accurately an average of how much a “bag” raises, bearing in mind that some are sacks stuffed full and other are carrier bags with a couple of items in.

  10. L! says:

Outstanding effort! Well done everyone who contributed, to help this very worthy cause! A lot of unselfish hours put in by the organising members to make this happen, so WELL DONE!

  14. Steffie says:

I am sure any of us that gave a bag or three were really glad to be able to contribute something to this excellent charity whose work not only benefits but is potentially saving so many lives across the UK. Thank you BHF!

  16. Charlotte says:
