Sheffield PBCC Donate a Lifesaving Defibrillator

Sheffield Plymouth Brethren Christian Church has donated a defibrillator to South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue (SYFR).

The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, accompanied by their local  Labour MP Paul Blomfield, recently attended SYFR headquarters to hand over the life saving defibrillator as part of their charitable donations which benefit the general public.

The church has assisted SYFR in the past, offering firefighters refreshments during large fires, such as the plastic factory fire on 14 July last year at Attercliffe, Sheffield.

The defibrillator, which is an easy to use medical device for administering lifesaving treatment for sudden cardiac arrest, will be kept in the reception area at the fire service headquarters in Sheffield, in case of a medical emergency.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer John Roberts said; “This generous donation from the Brethren Church will not only keep our staff safe, but also people out on the streets.  Every second counts when someone has suffered a cardiac arrest, the sooner they can receive emergency care the better their recovery chances are.”

David Smith from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church congregation in Sheffield said; “We have always been committed to making a positive contribution to the communities that we live in, and donating an essential piece of life saving equipment such as a defibrillator is something we are very pleased to be able to do”.

Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield said: “Defibrillators can be the difference between life and death for anyone who suffers a heart attack so it’s an excellent idea to have one placed in a city centre location, particularly with The Moor and busy offices so close.”
