The National Hospital Receive Vital Funds for Patient Communication System…

During the summer of last year £900 was raised through cake sales and the generous giving of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church; this was donated to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, ITU department.

The NHNN, in Queens Square London, is the largest dedicated neurological hospital in the UK, whose history goes back 150 years. The excellent team of specialist, doctors, surgeons and nurses, including the auxiliary workers, devote themselves to all their patients. The hospital provides comprehensive services for the diagnosis and care of all conditions that affect the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nervous system and muscles.

After a family member suffered a life threatening brain hemorrhage 18 months ago, Cleo Devenish and Leonie Calder, along with 2 other PBCC girls from the Dunstable Campus School, wanted to give something back to the ITU to show their appreciation.  They had witnessed first-hand  the results of the lifesaving treatment, skill and outstanding care from all on ITU and the High Dependency Unit.

Felicity Fox, Lead Nurse for Critical Care, was presented with the cheque on 12th July 2012; she commented: “We are very grateful for the fundraising you did for our unit. We have used the money to fund a communication system for patients who cannot speak, and they activate a computer through blinking or fixing their gaze on words/phrases. This equipment will be invaluable to our patients and the purchase of this would not have been possible without the efforts of the Plymouth Brethren Community

Thank you for supporting the NHNN. As someone who has had a family member treated at this excellent facility I very much appreciate what they do and am delighted to see you supporting them in this way.

Excellent! As someone who has had a lot of treatment at the NHNN I can witness to the fact that their skills cannot be found elsewhere quite at the same level (& I’ve been to many other hospitals). So I’m very pleased to see them being supported in this way.
Thank you so much for your generosity and hard work!

This has really made my day to see that you are giving to such a worthy cause. Oh I know that people are doing it all the time but for SUCH A LOT of money. I go there myself for Check ups and the difference they have made to my life is amazing. All I can say is thank you!

Good for you, girls. Our local PBCC raised over a thousand pounds towards a desperately needed new CT scanner at our local hospital last year, which was very much appreciated by them. Well, we never know when the facility will be needed by ourselves, but much more important, it is for EVERYBODY who needs it!!

Excellent – Great to see real appreciation shown for the incredible work that is carried out by these excellent medical teams. And even better that something can be given back to them in return to further help them in their valued work.
